A wave at the moment the lip pitches out, seen close and side-on, with the hollow already forming beneath it. No shore, no sky, no figure — the water fills everything.
The barrel sits almost centrally and the whole picture spirals into it: the lip curls from the upper right, the face sweeps round below, and the back of the wave rises away to the right. Spray falls through the left third as a pale curtain.
Teal and bottle green through the body of the wave, ultramarine in the trough, and a cold blue-white in the spray. Everything is blue or green; there is no warm colour anywhere.
Long curved strokes that follow the water's own rotation, laid wet-into-wet so the greens and blues meet without a seam. The spray is dragged across them at the end with a drier brush, breaking as it goes.
Oil on board. Thickly painted, with the brush direction legible throughout and ridges standing proud in the lip. The board's edges are painted white.
No signature visible within the painted area.
