A sunset sky at its most extreme, with the land reduced to a narrow silhouette at the bottom carrying two small trees.
Upright, and nine tenths sky. The horizon is pressed almost to the bottom edge so the picture is weather and nothing else; the colour bands run horizontally and stack from the top of the sheet to the base.
The most saturated on the wall — crimson and scarlet through the upper sky, dropping through orange and gold to a seam of emerald and turquoise just above the ridge. The land below is blue-black.
Thick, fast and wet-into-wet: the colours are dragged across each other while still live, so red runs into violet and orange into green without a clean edge anywhere. The paint stands well off the surface in the upper half.
Oil on board. The heaviest impasto on the wall, with ridges and peaks across the whole sky. The board's edges are painted white.
No signature visible within the painted area.
