A towering cloud over low rooftops and palms, seen from across a street, with the buildings reduced to a strip along the bottom.
The cloud is the subject and takes nine tenths of the sheet, rising as one mass from the centre and spreading toward both top corners. The roofline runs dead level beneath it and the palms punctuate that line at intervals.
Cream, buff and a faint peach through the cloud against cobalt and periwinkle in the breaks. Below, olive and sage in the buildings with two small strokes of red.
Broad flat dabs laid side by side, light over dark, with their edges deliberately left showing so the cloud reads as built from touches rather than brushed into shape. The palms are three or four marks each.
Gouache on paper. Matte and opaque. Unpainted margins all round.
Along the lower edge, raypatrick, in dark red over the buildings, letters widely spaced.
In Redondo Beach there is a giant power plant that is no longer in service. On the wall is a huge whale painted by Wyland. The power plant, along with its stacks, made a really nice contract against the cloudy sky.
