Palms in dark silhouette against an entirely blue field, the crowns dense and the trunks dropping to the bottom edge.
A loose group of four at the left leaning slightly inward, two more at the right, and an open passage of bare blue between them. The crowns sit high and the lower half is almost empty.
One colour, worked throughout — cerulean and cobalt, lighter at the lower left, deeper at the top. The palms are a blue-black barely separable from the ground, and a bronze cast appears where one at the right catches the light.
The ground is laid in broad flat passes with incised vertical lines scored through it. The crowns are blocked in as solid masses and the fronds flicked outward from them; several trunks are drawn as single lines running the full height.
Oil. Flexible unstretched support, the paint thin enough that scoring and weave read through. No impasto.
No signature visible within the painted area.
