A woman seen from behind in near silhouette, standing against a sunset sky over the sea, her hair and a long scarf blown out across the picture to the right.
Square, and divided by the figure: she occupies the left third from top to bottom, dark and almost featureless, and the sky opens across the remaining two thirds. The scarf sweeps from her shoulder to the lower right and ties the two halves together.
Coral, salmon and rose through the cloud against deep ultramarine and indigo in the sky and sea. The scarf is jade and sea green — the only cool note crossing into the warm half. A small white moon sits at the far left.
The cloud is modelled rather than flat, worked wet-into-wet with soft edges throughout — markedly different from the palm canvases beside it. The figure is kept as a single dark mass with almost no interior drawing, and the scarf is laid in long continuous strokes.
Oil. The surface carries fine directional striations throughout, left from a dragged brush or blade across the drying paint. Thin to moderately loaded, with no impasto.
No signature visible within the painted area.
