Palms drawn in line and filled with orange, their crowns spreading across the top of the picture and their trunks dropping through a pale ground.
Three trunks are spaced evenly across the width, their crowns merging into one continuous canopy along the upper third. A ruled horizontal runs behind them at the crown line, and the lower half is left almost empty.
Cadmium orange and vermilion in the canopy against a ground of pale blue, lilac and bone. The drawing over it is black; small accents of green and teal sit among the fronds.
Two operations: a thin scrubbed ground worked in broad passes, and over it a drawn line of uniform weight describing every frond. The orange is laid between the lines rather than within them, so colour and drawing do not quite register.
Oil. Flexible unstretched support, with pronounced creases running through the surface. Thin throughout, the folds and weave reading through the paint.
No signature visible within the painted area.
