A wide prairie flat seen from slightly above, with low blue hills along the top and flowering scrub scattered through the foreground.
Almost no sky — the hills are cropped by the top edge, so the picture is all ground. It is read as a field receding rather than a view, and the eye travels by the scale of the bushes alone.
Blue and indigo in the hills over a flat of sap green, olive and ochre. Small flecks of yellow, red and cobalt are scattered through the scrub as flower.
Short horizontal strokes throughout, laid shoulder to shoulder, with the scrub dabbed over them in rounder marks. The flowers are single flecks put on last and left untouched.
Oil on board. Moderately loaded, with impasto in the foreground brush. The board's edges are painted white.
No signature visible within the painted area.
