A heavy overcast closing over desert at dusk, with one break in the cloud showing green sky, and a thin band of magenta light along the ridge.
Upright, with the sky taking three quarters and the land compressed into a strip at the foot. The one opening in the cloud sits high and slightly left, and everything else is mass; it is the only place the eye can rest.
Slate, lavender and pewter through the cloud, with a startling teal-green in the gap. Below, a cobalt ridge carrying a seam of magenta, and a foreground of olive and grey-green.
The cloud is worked in short curved strokes laid in every direction, so no edge is ever drawn and the mass stays soft. The magenta seam is a single horizontal pull of unmixed colour, the only decisive mark in the picture.
Oil on board. Thick throughout, with ridges catching across the whole sky. The board's edges are painted white.
No signature visible within the painted area.
