A yard at the edge of a desert settlement — a long low shed with a pitched roof, two street lights, a utility pole and a stack of timber, under a tall sky.
The shed anchors the right third and the two lights stand well apart at the left and centre, so the uprights are spaced unevenly across a picture that is otherwise all horizontal. The ground runs out flat along the bottom quarter.
A strong ultramarine sky with white and pale blue cloud. The shed is olive and khaki, the ground tan and sand; a band of emerald hedge sits behind the fence at the left.
The sky is worked in short curved strokes with the brush constantly turning, so the cloud has no drawn edge. The poles and lights are single dark strokes laid over finished paint, and the timber stack is three or four flat marks.
Oil on board. Thickly painted, with impasto through the cloud and the weave showing in the thinner passages. The board's edges are painted white.
No signature visible within the painted area.
