A mesa wall of red rock running the full width under a crowded sky, with a green flat and scattered brush along the bottom.
Divided roughly in half: sky above, rock and flat below, with the mesa's top edge running almost level across the join. The weather above is busy and the land beneath is simple, which is the picture's whole structure.
Ultramarine and white in the sky with cream where the sun is behind the cloud. The mesa is oxblood, rust and violet-brown; the flat below runs sap green and olive with lime accents.
The sky is scrubbed in overlapping diagonals that leave the ground showing through; the rock face is cut in with vertical loaded strokes that read as cliff. The foreground bushes are single rounded dabs.
Oil on board. Moderately thick, with impasto in the cloud. The board's edges are painted white.
No signature visible within the painted area.
