Prickly pear growing along the edge of a sandy track, seen close and from above, with more brush closing in behind. No sky and no horizon.
The track enters at the bottom right and winds back to the upper centre, and everything is arranged along it. The pads at the lower left are the largest forms and the only ones given in full — the rest dissolves into mass.
Almost entirely green: emerald, sage, olive and a cold mint in the pads, with the track running cream and buff through it. A few blue-black accents mark the shadows between pads.
Each cactus pad is one flat loaded stroke, shaped by the brush rather than drawn, with a darker stroke beside it for the shadow. The track is scrubbed in more loosely and left broken.
Oil on board. Thick and worked wet-into-wet in places, with raised ridges in the foreground pads. The board's edges are painted white.
No signature visible within the painted area.
