A hotel pool seen beneath very tall palms, with loungers and umbrellas along the far side, two figures standing at the right, and a branch of yellow blossom hanging into the top corner.
Upright and emphatically so: the palms run the full height, their trunks reduced to bare lines, and the pool is confined to a band at the bottom. The blossom at the upper right is the only thing in the near foreground and it frames the rest.
A violet-blue sky, unusual and deliberate, against deep green foliage. The pool is turquoise and jade; the yellow blossom is the single warm note and sits at the opposite corner from the figures.
The palm crowns are dabbed in short flat touches; the trunks are drawn in one pull each, straight and unwavering. The figures and loungers are single marks, laid in without outline.
Gouache on paper. Matte and opaque throughout. Unpainted margins all round, with the title pencilled below the painted area.
Along the lower edge, raypatrick, in red-brown over the pool, letters widely spaced. Below it, in pencil in the artist's hand: Beverly Hills Hotel.
