Palms silhouetted against a sky of green and blue light, arranged as a receding rank from the left foreground to the right distance.
The trees step down and away from the upper left to the lower right, diminishing as they go, which gives the picture a perspective none of the other palm canvases attempt. A green band curves across the upper right like weather.
Teal and cerulean through the ground with a sweep of acid green across the top — the aurora of the title. The palms are a deep blue-black that reads as green where it meets the lighter passages.
The ground is washed and scrubbed in broad sweeps with spatter worked into it while wet, so it mottles and pools. The palms are cut in flat over the top, each frond a separate drawn stroke.
Oil. Flexible unstretched support; the paint is thin, with surface texture and spatter legible throughout.
No signature visible within the painted area.
