A dancer swears Mersh to secrecy about her and the manager, delighted with herself — secrets are so exciting — and the strip then gives the secret away twice over. His father ribs him about the hair, a room full of people shout his name, and the last panel leaves him with a cigarette and an expression that says the quiet part has already travelled.
Six panels, the first a tall upright one that holds the title vertically up its left edge. The sheet moves from two people in close to a crowd scene and then back to a single head, so the gossip visibly spreads and contracts.
Deep ultramarine through the private panels against cream and sand in the crowd, with the red of Mersh's shirt pulling the eye to the end of the strip.
Ink line with washes kept flat in the background and worked wet in the faces. The crowd panel is drawn smaller and looser on purpose, so it reads as noise.
Watercolour and ink on paper.
Signed rayrayisHAPPY in small script at the lower right.
He just wakes up with his hair like that.
