A head thrown back in mid-shout, seen in profile, mouth wide with a cigarette still clamped in the teeth and mirrored sunglasses pushed up the brow. A sunburst of rays fills the ground behind the head.
The head is cropped hard at the right edge and the rays radiate from a point just inside the open mouth, so the shout appears to be making the light. The painted rectangle stops short of the paper's edge on all sides.
Chrome yellow and cadmium orange in the rays against warm brown and sienna in the beard, with the glasses in cyan and white and a sage-green shadow along the jaw.
Ink contour filled with wet washes, the beard worked in broken directional strokes and the rays brushed as flat alternating bands. Spatter is flicked over the lower left corner.
