Where cats smoke
A tabby cat's head fills the left of the sheet with a lit cigarette in its mouth, staring straight out, while behind it at human scale a man and a woman stand together holding a cat and talking. The Kitty City sign runs across the top.
A hard scale break: the cat's head is drawn at four or five times life size and cropped by the left edge, and the people are small and complete at the right. The sign bridges the two halves.
Black ink on white. No colour.
The cat is built from dense directional hatching that follows the fur and the facial structure, against much lighter open line in the figures. The cigarette and its smoke are the only white shapes in the dark half.
Ink on paper.
Signed with the artist's name at the lower right and dated in MMDDYY beside it.
