Subject

Two comic studies of a green-skinned figure in a hooded cloak — standing with one hand raised at the top, and below reclining with her long hair spread out behind her.

Composition

Two panels on one spread, each with the figure breaking the ruled border. The upper is a full-length action pose; the lower is a close half-length, so the page runs from far to near.

Palette

Emerald, viridian and chartreuse through the cloak and skin against grounds of rose, lilac and teal. The mouth in the lower study is a hard cadmium orange and the only warm note on the face.

Handling

Drawn in a fast closed pen line and washed inside it, with the hair in the lower study built from long drawn strokes rather than a wash. Nothing is corrected anywhere.

Medium and support

Watercolour with pen and ink in a spiral-bound sketchbook, two studies on one spread. A studio photograph of a page rather than a single picture.

Signature

No signature visible within the drawn area.
