watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Two watercolour studies on a sketchbook spread — a bay seen from a bluff with headlands running out into blue water, and a stand of dark trees beside a utility pole on open ground.
Two large studies side by side, both with ragged unruled edges. The bay study is read steeply from above with no sky at all; the tree study opposite is read level and gives its upper third to a pale horizon.
Cobalt and ultramarine through the bay with headlands in olive and sage. The tree study is emerald and bottle green against a bone sky, with ochre in the bare ground beneath.
The bay is laid in flat wet masses that bleed into one another, while the trees opposite are stamped in dozens of separate rounded touches with the sky showing between them.
Watercolour in a spiral-bound sketchbook, two studies on one spread, with a pencilled note below. A studio photograph of a page with the brushes and tube colours used, not a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
