watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

A dozen small framed watercolours laid out together — coastal bluffs, flowering meadows, pine slopes and open water — in alternating black and natural wood frames.
The frames are ranked edge to edge in rows running away from the viewer. Each picture is built the same way: a high viewpoint, a shoreline or path entering from one corner, and the distance closed by a flat band.
Cobalt and turquoise water throughout, against slopes in sap green and emerald with violet shadow. Two of the meadow panels carry cadmium yellow and magenta flowers and are the brightest in the group.
Transparent and fast, the darks dropped into wet washes so they bleed, and the foliage stamped in separate touches over dry colour. The whites are all reserved paper.
Watercolour on paper, twelve works, framed in black and natural wood. A studio photograph of a group of framed works rather than a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
