Mersh is in a store when a woman recognises him — Velvet, who used to dance at the club — and the conversation goes straight past small talk into what the regulars said about her. He takes it without flinching, agrees that he cannot cook either, and the strip ends on the pair of them at a counter and a hand-lettered joke about swimming.
Six panels that keep cutting the distance in half: a wide shop aisle, then the two of them at a shelf, then single heads, then two figures at a counter seen from behind a third. The lettering in the last panel does the work a balloon would.
Acid yellow and lemon through the store against violet, plum and a cold grey in the final panel, with the orange of a shopping basket running through.
Flat bright washes inside a quick ink line, with the faces given a second pass. The last panel drops nearly all the colour, which is how the strip signals the register changing.
Watercolour and ink on paper.
Signed rayrayisHAPPY in small script at the lower left.
Flirting 2: notice the same girl from flirting 1 is behind Mersh in line... he misses it again.
