Tiger township
Concept work for Kitty City. An enormous striped tiger lies along the foreground with its chin on its paw, and behind it a township of spired buildings and temples climbs a hill. Small human figures and cats move about at street level between them.
The animal is drawn at architectural scale across the bottom third and the city rises behind it, so the two occupy the sheet as foreground and backdrop with no middle ground at all. The tail curls back into the lower right corner and closes the frame.
Black ink on white. No colour.
The tiger is built from heavy brushed stripes and the township from fine pen detail, which keeps the two separate without an outline between them. The buildings are drawn in full and the crowd only suggested.
Ink on paper.
Signed with the artist's name at the lower centre, dated in MMDDYY.
