The Maniak #2, the crowdfunder art
Crowdfunder art for The Maniak #2, the armoured Maniak looming over a boy in a green shirt who reaches away toward a box of comics. BACK IT NOW! is lettered across the top in black over a yellow and orange wash. The helmet is a black dome with a white crescent grin and a red tongue, the cape a mass of ribbed black, one gauntleted hand closing on the boy's arm. The boy's other hand is on a comic marked CRYBABY LARRY. The right third carries the title in yellow, the issue number in pink, the two funding sites, and the line "dont be a crybaby like Larry".
A promotional layout rather than a scene. The figures fill the left two thirds on a diagonal, the type fills the right third, and the shout across the top ties the two halves together. The boy's outflung arm points out of the frame to the right, straight into the call to action.
Black armour and cape against a yellow-to-orange wash, with the boy's green shirt and tan hair the only relief; the type adds its own yellow, magenta and red.
Ink laid first and washed over, the background scrubbed on fast and left streaky, the spatter at the right edge flicked rather than painted. The shout is drawn by hand; the campaign lines are set type.
Watercolour and ink on paper with type added, made to sell the second issue.
