Shoot out, in colour
Mersh firing a rifle and a pistol with a cat crouched beside him working a rifle of its own, the shots lettered BAP BAP and TAT TAT, muzzle flash blooming at the right.
Both shooters face right along one firing line with the lettering banked behind them at the left, so the sheet reads in the direction of the fire. The flash fills the right third and stops the eye leaving the page.
Scarlet and plum through Mersh against ochre and burnt orange in the muzzle flash, over a cold violet floor. The lettering is picked out in yellow and orange.
Washes laid over finished ink, the colour used to separate the planes rather than to model — the flash is built from overlapping dabs while the figures are filled flat.
Watercolour and ink on paper.
