Seascapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Three watercolour studies stacked down a sheet — a swell running in under a pale sky, a flat sea at dusk, and a long beach with surf arriving in parallel lines below a low town.
Three ruled horizontals of increasing depth. The lowest is the principal: the sand sweeps in from the lower left, the surf runs across in three white bands, and the headland closes the distance.
Cobalt, teal and jade through the water with surf left as bare paper. The sand is ochre and umber; the town a thin band of bone and olive.
The lines of surf are reserved white paper, not lifted, with each band of water laid round them in a single pull. The wet sand in the foreground is flooded and allowed to granulate.
Watercolour on paper, three studies on one sheet, with ruled pencil borders. A studio photograph of a sheet of studies rather than a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
