Seascapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Four watercolour studies ruled across a sketchbook spread — a rocky headland in cold water, a city avenue at sunset with traffic, a sea stack standing offshore, and a golden cliff above still water.
Four large boxes, two to a page. Three are coastal and built on a level horizon; the city study at the upper right is the exception and drives its perspective straight down the avenue to a lit vanishing point.
Teal, slate and bottle green through the three coastal studies. The city breaks to gold and amber sky against buildings in plum and umber, with two small yellow cabs as the only saturated notes.
The rock is laid in flat facets with hard dried edges and the water dragged beneath it in horizontal pulls. The city is drawn into with the point of the brush once the wash had dried.
Watercolour in a spiral-bound sketchbook, four studies on one spread, dated. A studio photograph of a page with the brushes and paintbox used, not a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
