Seascapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

The same sketchbook spread of seven coastal studies seen closer and from the left — the surf beach, the colour strips, the gold sunset flat and the black cliffs.
Photographed along the page rather than square to it, so the studies foreshorten away to the right. At this angle the surf study at the left dominates and the bands within it read as one continuous run.
Teal, pewter and bone through the surf, against a gold and olive sunset below. The cliff study at the right is the darkest thing on the spread — plum and near-black with chartreuse along its rim.
Wet into wet throughout, each band laid while the one above it was still damp so no edge is hard. The small dark figures on the beach are single touches put in last.
Watercolour in a spiral-bound sketchbook, seven studies on one spread. A second studio photograph of the same page, taken from another angle.
No signature legible at this scale.
