Seascapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

The same sketchbook spread of coastal studies again, photographed steeply from the left so the page runs away into the corner of the frame.
The viewpoint is low and raking, so the surf study at the left is seen almost edge-on and the cliff study at the top right is compressed. The gold sunset strip sits at the centre and holds the picture together.
Pewter, teal and bone in the surf; cadmium yellow and olive in the sunset strip; plum, umber and bottle green in the cliffs. The palette table in the upper left corner repeats all three.
Laid in long wet horizontal pulls with the lights left as bare paper. Seen at this angle the paint sits visibly in the grain of the sheet, which is what the photograph is really showing.
Watercolour in a spiral-bound sketchbook, several studies on one spread. A third studio photograph of the same page, from a lower angle.
No signature legible at this scale.
