Seascapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Five watercolour studies of a boat moored off a reef break, spread across a table — the same vessel and the same wave under five different skies.
The sheets overlap in a loose fan. Every study puts the boat low and left with its masts rising, the wave running in behind it, and the horizon high — the only change between them is the weather.
Ultramarine and teal water throughout. The skies run from a pale lilac in the uppermost study to a heavy olive-brown and finally near-black in the one at the foot, which is the darkest of the five.
Flooded wet with the surf reserved as bare paper, and the rigging drawn in last as fine dark lines over dry colour. Each is one sitting's work and none is corrected.
Watercolour on paper, five studies. A studio photograph of a group of works laid out on the table, not a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
