Seascapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Three watercolour studies on a sheet — a long narrow strip of dark trees and water at dusk, a sunlit green park with palms and a path, and a burning sunset over the sea with a figure in the shallows.
The narrow strip runs the full width at the top; the two smaller studies sit side by side below it. The strip is nine parts land to one of sky, and the sunset beside it is the reverse.
The strip is umber, plum and olive, almost monochrome. The park study is emerald and cerulean, and the sunset is scarlet, crimson and cadmium orange throughout with no cool colour at all.
The sunset is laid in long horizontal strokes of saturated colour that dry at their own edges, with the reflections dragged downward through them. The strip above is one wash with the trees stamped along it.
Watercolour on paper, three studies on one sheet. A studio photograph of a sheet with the palette used, not a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
