Seascapes, Surfing — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

A woman sitting astride a longboard in the swell, seen from behind, waiting with a low headland and a town behind her.
Horizontal bands throughout — a dark sky, a rose horizon, the town, the water — with the figure placed low and right of centre, the only thing breaking the run of them.
Indigo and teal through the water with the sky in deep ultramarine and one band of rose at the horizon. The figure is ochre, gold and sienna and is the single warm note.
The water is laid in short choppy horizontal strokes of transparent colour, each left as its own mark so the surface reads as moving. The figure is built in opaque touches over dry paint.
Watercolour on paper, with a ruled pencil border. Photographed with two brushes laid across it.
No signature visible within the painted area.
