Seascapes, Surfing — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

A surfer in silhouette walking out across a wet shore at sunset, the whole sheet given to the band of colour the low sun lays on the sand.
An extreme upright, read as one long diagonal band. The figure is small, near the top, and is the only drawn thing in the picture; everything else is colour lying on water.
A full spectrum laid out across the sheet — cadmium orange and scarlet at the top, through gold, chartreuse and viridian, to cobalt and violet at the foot. The figure and its reflection are flat black.
Flooded wet and allowed to run the length of the sheet so the colours pass into one another without a seam, with dark reflections dropped in while it was still wet. The figure is three strokes put in last.
Watercolour on paper. Photographed on the studio table with four brushes beside it.
No signature visible within the painted area.
