Seascapes, Surfing — oil painting by Ray Patrick

Two surfers on one wave — a woman standing with both arms raised at the right, and a second paddling prone on a pink board below her — with a violet headland behind.
The wave runs as a diagonal from the lower left to the upper right and both figures sit on it, the standing one high and the prone one low. The headland is a flat violet mass behind and sets the two against distance.
Cerulean sky and viridian water, with the headland in violet and plum. The standing figure wears chartreuse and the board below is magenta — two hot notes placed in an otherwise cool panel.
Loaded and flat, the wave built from long directional strokes with the foam dragged across in broken white. The figures are a few touches each, the raised arms single strokes.
Oil on canvas paper with an unpainted margin. Photographed propped on a ledge.
Lower centre, raypatrick, scratched into the wet paint in orange.
