Seascapes, Surfing — oil painting by Ray Patrick

A surfer walking out of the shallows carrying a longboard on her hip, seen from the side against the broken water behind her.
The figure walks left to right across the centre and the board runs the full width behind her as a long horizontal, so body and board make a cross at the middle of the picture. The water fills everything else.
Teal, jade and cerulean through the water with a band of bottle green beyond. The board is a warm salmon-pink and the figure's skin a deep sienna — the only warm notes, and placed together.
The water is dragged in long horizontal strokes of several blues laid side by side. The figure and board are modelled in a few confident strokes with no drawing underneath and no correction.
Oil on canvas board. Moderately loaded with the weave visible at the margins; photographed on the studio desk with brushes.
Along the lower edge, raypatrick, in blue over the water, letters widely spaced.
