Seascapes, Surfing — oil painting by Ray Patrick

A woman riding a longboard across a clean green wall of water, arms out and knees soft, with white cloud behind her.
The wave runs the full width as one green diagonal and the figure stands on it slightly left of centre, the only vertical. The water in front is open and carries her reflection as broken colour.
Emerald and sap green through the wave face against turquoise in the water below. The sky is white and pale blue; the surfer is a single note of vermilion and ochre.
The wave is one long dragged stroke of unmixed green with the crest scraped in white above it. The figure is four or five marks with no drawing, and the reflection is dabbed beneath.
Oil on canvas board. Thick, with the knife used in the crest; photographed on a spiral sketchbook of pen drawings, which is beneath the work rather than part of it.
Lower right, raypatrick, in white over the water, letters touching.
