Seascapes, Surfing — oil painting by Ray Patrick

A woman sitting astride a longboard in flat turquoise water, seen from behind and above, waiting — with a sunset panel lying behind it on the table.
The horizon sits high and the figure low and left of centre, so almost the whole panel is water. There is no shore, no wave and no incident but her.
Turquoise, jade and cobalt through the water with a pale lilac sky. The figure and board are bone, sienna and gold — the only warm notes, and placed in the coolest part of the picture.
The water is laid in short horizontal strokes of several greens and blues, each left as its own mark, so the surface reads as moving. The figure is five or six touches with no drawing beneath.
Oil on canvas paper with an unpainted margin. A studio photograph with a second panel behind it, which is a separate work.
Lower right, raypatrick, scratched into the wet paint.
