Seascapes, Surfing — oil painting by Ray Patrick

A woman in an orange swimsuit walking the nose of her board across a wave at dusk, with a dark headland at the right and her reflection below her.
An extreme horizontal, roughly three to one. The wave runs level across the middle and the figure stands right of centre; the whole lower half is still violet water carrying her reflection.
Plum, lavender and periwinkle through the sky and water, with viridian breaking on the wave face. The figure is cadmium orange — a single hot note in an entirely cool panel.
Laid in long horizontal pulls of close-valued colour so the sea and sky almost merge, with the figure stamped over them in a few loaded touches and her reflection dragged straight down.
Oil on canvas paper with an unpainted margin. Photographed on the studio table with the brush and tube colours used.
Lower left, raypatrick, scratched into the wet paint in green.
