Seascapes, Sunsets — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Two watercolour coastal studies on one sheet — dark sea stacks standing in turquoise shallows, and below it a boulder shore at sunset with the light breaking low at the right.
Both are ruled horizontals. The upper is read from above with the rocks running back on a diagonal; the lower is read level, the boulders filling the whole sheet and the sky reduced to a strip.
Turquoise and viridian in the upper water against rocks of umber and plum. The lower is slate and dove through the stone with one seam of cadmium orange and gold at the horizon.
Wet throughout — the rocks dropped into damp paper so they feather and granulate, the foam left as bare sheet. The hot light at the horizon is a single stroke laid over dry colour at the end.
Watercolour on paper, two studies on one sheet, with ruled pencil borders. A studio photograph of a sheet of studies rather than a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
