Seascapes, Sunsets, Surfing — oil painting by Ray Patrick

Five small framed oils standing on wooden boxes — a reef at sunset, a woman wading with a board, a surfer dropping in, a crimson sunset, and a rock in gold light — on a sheet of charcoal head studies.
The frames are set at angles across the table at different heights, overlapping. Three are built on a level horizon and two on a diagonal, so the group alternates calm and movement across the photograph.
The crimson sunset is the loudest — scarlet, magenta and violet. The two figure panels are its opposite, cobalt and viridian water with small hot notes of cadmium yellow on the swimsuits.
Thick and square throughout, each plane one loaded stroke left as it landed. In the surfing panel the wave face is a single sweep of blue with the figure stamped over it in three dark marks.
Oil on board, five works, in wood frames. A studio photograph of a group of framed works on a sheet of drawings, not a single picture.
Lower right of several panels, raypatrick, scratched into the paint.
