Seascapes, Sunsets, Surfing — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Two watercolour studies of a surfer on a longboard at sunset, the same figure in silhouette with arms raised, once against a pale sky and once against a green one.
The two studies are ruled one above the other and are near-repeats. In both the wave runs as a dark diagonal across the lower half and the figure stands just right of centre; the only change is the colour of the light.
The upper study is apricot, rose and dove over a sea of indigo. The lower is sage, olive and gold — the same scene at a different hour, which is the reason for painting it twice.
The skies are laid in short horizontal strokes of transparent colour left to dry at their own edges, and the wave in both is one long loaded pull. The figures are single opaque silhouettes.
Watercolour on paper, two studies on one sheet. A studio photograph of a sheet of studies rather than a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
