Seascapes, Sunsets, Surfing — oil painting by Ray Patrick
A very small oil of a great cumulus lit from beneath at sunset, standing over a dark sea, in a wide silver frame.
The cloud mass fills the right two thirds and climbs to the top edge; the sea runs as a narrow band along the foot. The single dark hollow at the cloud's centre is the only shadow and holds the whole picture.
Cadmium orange, gold and rose through the lit cloud against cobalt sky at the left. The sea beneath is viridian and plum; there is no neutral anywhere in the panel.
Thick and loaded, each facet of cloud one square-ended stroke of unmixed colour, with the paint standing proud. Nothing is blended and the dark hollow is a single stamped mark.
