Seascapes — oil painting by Ray Patrick

Eight small oil panels of the sea laid out together — four close studies of a wave barrelling, and four wider views of surf breaking over reef, one with Diamond Head behind it.
The panels are ranked in two columns running away from the viewer. The four wave studies are all built the same way: the tube just below centre, the lip cropped at the top edge, and no horizon. The coastal panels invert that and give most of the picture to open water.
Viridian, teal and ultramarine throughout, with the foam in cold blue-white. Only the Diamond Head panel carries warm colour — ochre in the headland and a strip of bone along the shore.
Long curved strokes that follow the rotation of the water, laid wet into wet so the greens and blues meet without a seam, with the spray dragged across them on a drier brush.
Oil on canvas board, eight panels, the edges painted white. A studio photograph of a group of works rather than a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
