Seascapes — oil painting by Ray Patrick

A rocky point with water running through the channels between the shelves, a long headland behind, and broken cloud above.
The rock shelves run in from the lower left on a diagonal and the water cuts between them toward the middle; the headland closes the distance as a flat band. There is no level line anywhere in the foreground.
Cobalt, teal and turquoise in the water against rock in olive, bottle green and umber. The whole panel is held in blue-green — the one passage of rust at the lower left is the only warm note.
Thick and directional, every stroke running with the fall of the rock, with the white water laid last as a single broken pull through the channel.
Oil on canvas paper with an unpainted margin. Photographed on the studio table.
Lower left, raypatrick, scratched into the wet paint in blue.
