saint mersh_1 blue boarder blue stroke

The Saint Mersh devotional card finished and titled — the haloed figure in the red robe with a cigarette raised, a weapon over the shoulder, a black cat held against the sacred heart on his shirt — with SAINT MERSH lettered across the foot of the card in gold and orange.
The icon is set inside a deep blue border on all four sides, which closes the composition and gives the lettering a band of its own at the bottom. The halo has been worked up into solid gold, so the head now sits against metal rather than sky.
Vermilion and rust through the robe, gold in the halo and the lettering, turquoise in the cap, against a deep cobalt border.
The painted icon is carried over unchanged and the additions are all around it — the gold halo laid in flat, the border ruled, the title drawn in outlined capitals with a shadow and a gradient fill.
Watercolour, ink and lettering on paper, prepared as artwork for reproduction.
The artist's name runs up the left margin inside the border.
