Saguaros against a violet range at dusk

Saguaros standing against a violet range at dusk, with dense flowering scrub and boulders filling the whole foreground.
Three registers — sky, range, desert floor — with the floor taking the lower two thirds. Four saguaros rise through it at uneven intervals and are the only verticals; the tallest breaks the line of the hills.
Pale lilac and rose through the sky over a range of magenta and deep violet. The floor is emerald, teal and plum with scattered flecks of crimson; the cactus is a sharp acid yellow-green that sits forward of everything else.
Wet and granulating — the range is one flooded wash left to settle, and the foreground is built from rounded touches dropped into damp paper so they bleed together. The cactus is drawn last in opaque strokes over the dry ground.
Watercolour on paper. Transparent throughout, with unpainted margins on all four sides.
Lower right, RAY RAY IS HAPPY, in black over the scrub, letters widely spaced.
