Portraits — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

A smiling man in heavy black-framed glasses and a dark jacket, seen close and from slightly below, with a coffee maker and a cup on the counter beside him.
The head fills the left two thirds and is cropped at the crown; the counter and the coffee maker occupy the right. The ruled pencil border is still visible and the drawing runs over it at the left.
Sienna, ochre and rose through the face against a pale lemon and mint ground. The jacket is a near-black with cobalt in its folds; the glasses and the coffee maker repeat that black.
Transparent throughout, the flesh built in layered washes with the lights left as bare paper and the darks dropped in wet at the jaw and the collar. The glasses are drawn last in one unbroken stroke.
Watercolour on paper, with a ruled pencil border.
No signature visible within the painted area.
