Portraits — pencil drawing by Ray Patrick

Two graphite head studies on overlapping sheets — a large one at the right, head turned and tipped back, and a smaller profile behind it at the upper left.
The large head fills the right two thirds and is cropped at the crown and the chin. The second sheet runs behind it at an angle, so its profile is read against the larger head's hair.
Graphite on white, from a dense charcoal in the hair to bare paper across the temple and the far cheek. One hard white rectangle is left unworked on the brow.
Hatched in fine parallel strokes that build up as layers rather than being rubbed, so the tone stays granular. The lights are reserved as flat geometric shapes, never feathered at the edges.
Graphite on paper, two studies on separate sheets. A studio photograph of drawings on the bench rather than a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
