Portraits — pencil drawing by Ray Patrick

Three graphite studies on one sheet — a man's head in profile tipped back, a woman looking up out of the page, and a standing figure in a shirt seen from behind — with pencils and a brush laid across the paper.
The three run left to right across the sheet at descending scale, each in its own panel of worked ground. The standing figure at the right is the only whole body and anchors the group.
Graphite on white, from a dense black in the hair down to bare paper across the lit cheek and shoulder. No wash and no mid-tone laid flat anywhere.
The heads are modelled in soft rubbed planes with the lights lifted back out; the standing figure is hatched more openly and left less finished. The construction lines stay visible in all three.
Graphite on paper, three studies, dated in pencil at the top. A studio photograph of a sheet of drawings rather than a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
