Subject

A palm-lined boulevard looking toward a pale tower, with two figures walking away from the viewer in the near foreground and more further up the road.

Composition

One-point perspective: the road runs from the bottom edge to a vanishing point just left of centre, with palms closing both sides like a corridor and the tower standing on the axis at the far end.

Palette

Emerald and chartreuse through the palms against a road of lavender and dove, with the tower and the distant buildings in pale violet. A small coral note on the near figure and red flowers at the lower left are the only hot colour.

Handling

Fast and transparent, the fronds struck out as individual loaded strokes from each crown and the distance washed in soft and pale so it recedes against them. The figures are two or three touches each with no drawing.

Medium and support

Watercolour on paper. Transparent throughout, with unpainted margins on all four sides.

Signature

Lower left, RAYRAYISHAPPY, in black over the road, letters touching.
