oil painting by Ray Patrick

Around ten small framed desert watercolours laid out on a table — a banded sunset as the largest, with mesas, flowering flats, cumulus studies and a lone butte around it.
The frames are ranked across the table at angles with the largest at the upper right. Every picture is a horizontal built on a level line, with the land in the lower half and weather above.
The large sunset is plum, scarlet and cadmium yellow. The small panels are cooler — violet mesas, sage and emerald flats, cerulean skies — which is what makes the big one read as the centre.
Transparent and quick, the ground stamped in separate touches over dry washes and the skies flooded with the cloud reserved as bare paper. None is worked beyond its first statement.
Watercolour on paper, around ten framed works. A studio photograph of a group of framed works on a table, not a single picture.
Lower edge of the largest, raypatrick, in pale letters widely spaced.
