oil painting by Ray Patrick

A street market under white canopies, the crowd packed between the stalls, with tall palms rising above them against a deep blue sky.
The aisle runs straight back from the bottom edge to a vanishing point at the centre, with stalls closing both sides. The palms stand above the canopies at uneven intervals and are the only things breaking the skyline.
A saturated cobalt sky over white and cream canopies. The crowd below carries every warm note in the picture — straw hats, coral, ochre, vermilion — scattered so none dominates.
Figures are single loaded strokes, dozens of them, diminishing as they recede. The canopies are flat planes with their shadowed undersides cut in as one stroke of violet each.
Oil on canvas board — the tubes are in the photograph beside it. Moderately loaded, the weave visible at the margins.
Lower left, raypatrick, in blue over the ground, letters touching.
